Advice to a Younger Me

Posted by Kara Crail

Ah yes, 18-years-old. Staying out until 4AM, surviving off $1 chicken sandwiches, sun-tanning like a pig on a spit, and basically making every desperate effort to mask our actual identities just for a single glance.
Advice to an 18 year old me

The list of stupid things we’ve done at 18-years-old could go on forever. It’s the age where we legally become adult women, and as soon as we spit all over the swirly candles of our sprinkled ice cream cake, we begin thinking that we’ve got it all figured out. For many of us here at BMC, 18 is just a speck in our rear-view mirrors. We’re older but wiser, and if we could turn back the wheels of time, we’d love to have a word with our younger selves.

We asked some of the ladies at BMC:
If you could give your 18-year-old self one piece of advice, what would it be?

Tiana Akana of BMC

“Health insurance, credit, mortgage, all the bills: figure that out immediately because they didn’t teach you that in school.”

Devon Nurre of BMC

Don't be so hard on yourself

"Stop being so hard on yourself. It's okay to be a mess sometimes. No one has it all figured out.”
