Spooky Girl Universe

Posted by Kara Crail

You're traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound, but of mind. You’ve just crossed over into… the Spooky Girl universe.

Our latest collaboration stamping plate with Andi Astra, a.k.a. @spookygirlart, takes your imagination beyond the Twilight Zone and into the depths of the infinite. Andi is an illustrative artist who creates psychedelic, pop-surrealist art of the unknown and the imaginary. Their talent is widely known throughout social media and has been showcased in galleries, conventions, and commercially throughout the country. With themes of alien encounters and modern femininity, Andi’s nail stamping plate invites you to explore your own strange little universe.

The creative universe of Spooky Girl is out of this world. Their work leaves you captivated, inspired, and wondering about the possibilities of this existence. We were lucky enough to take a tiny peek into the mysterious universe of Spooky Girl and their creative process with this exclusive Q&A:

How would you describe your design style?

I love bright colors, cosmic details with fantasy undertones. I mostly draw aliens, monsters and robo-girls in beautiful colorful fashion surrounded by positive messages.

Where do you get your design inspiration from?

My style is heavily influenced by retro sci-fi and pop surrealist art!

What artist influences you the most?

Right now my favorite artist is Hajime Soroyama

What is your creative process like?

Before starting a drawing I usually scour the internet for inspiration, finding old retro-futuristic publications, fashion photography and other images that show what I'm trying to capture with my drawing. I usually combine all of my inspiration images into a mood board or collage and then sit down to start drawing for 4-8 hours!

What do you like to do in your free time when not designing?

I like to garden, go to the beach, and play my ukulele.

How do you practice self-care?

As a full-time artist, balance can be really hard, and I tend to work all the time. I try to practice self-care but setting boundaries with myself about how long I should be working on projects each day!

  • Thank you so much for the alien and space touch. It’s a favorite genre of mine. I especially enjoy the full nail design with a path. It has a purpose other than looking great! And they do look great. They aren’t too “girlie “, either. Thanks for that, as well. I’m really enjoying your work.
    Sincerely,
    Erin
