Back to Basics Series: 3 Simple Tips for Stronger, Healthier Nails

Posted by Kara Crail

Nothing is worse than spending hours on new cute nail designs and having a nail break within days. 😩 Ouch! Like they say, outer beauty won't last forever; it's what's underneath that really counts. Whether you're a total nail newbie or a manicure master, follow these 3 basic tips for growing stronger, healthier nails.

3 Tips for your Nails to Grow Healthy and Stronger

Moisturizing your nails

1. Moisturize your nails!

Quickly and easily enhance the appearance of your cuticles, nails, and skin with a simple moisturizer or Cuticle Oil. This tip is especially crucial if you live in a dry environment. Dehydrated, cracked skin and cuticles makes your body more prone to foreign elements. Massaging moisture and nutrients into your cuticles will help to stimulate blood flow into your fingers, encouraging nail growth and acting as a barrier against bacterial and fungal infections. If you're grossed out by the thought of warm, oily fingers, use a dab of coconut oil on your hands and some vitamin enhanced cuticle oil.

2. Avoid Harsh Chemicals

We're not just talking about detergents and cleaning solutions! Harsh chemicals can be found in shampoos and soaps, too. Many products created to combat oily skin and hair will undoubtedly strip the natural oils from your nails as well. Next time you're shopping for bath products and hand soaps, opt for a moisturizing solution or look for all-natural ingredients. Make sure to moisturize your hands after a shower, and if you're constantly cleaning your home, consider switching to all-natural products, protecting your fingers with gloves, and maybe asking your partner to take over sometime. 😜

3. EAT FOOD!

Eat real food! Not a food product. A nutrient rich diet is one of the best ways to grow stronger, healthier nails. While some sources may suggest taking Biotin supplements, a b-vitamin complex, for nail growth, other sources are skeptical about its inconclusive results. Your best bet would be to eat a well-balanced colorful diet. Eat your way through the rainbow! Vitamin C, calcium, iron, and omega-3s are known for its nail strengthening benefits, so load up on fruits, veggies, leafy greens, nuts, and lean proteins.
